Top Performance-Busting Distractions For Young Athletes

Helping Sports Kids Stay Focused

Concentration is key to excelling in sports.

When kids aren’t focused on what they need to do to perform their skills, performance suffers. Then your athletes are unable to perform in the “zone.”

Not coping effectively with distractions can really hurt your athletes’ performance in sports.

Distractions come in two forms—outer and inner.

Inner distractions are often the toughest for young athletes to shake. They begin in their minds and can wreak havoc. Kids are distracted when they dwell on past mistakes, for example.

Outer distractions are trigger by what’s happening around young athletes. They’re often unexpected, such as bad weather, loud noises, or bad calls from the referees. Like inner distractions, they derail kids’ attention and can hurt their performance.

And yes, parents can distract their young athletes too!

Kids say their parents talk too much while they’re driving athletes to a game, for example.

Or they coach too much from the sidelines, making it difficult for kids to focus on what they really need to be focused on.

To help you and your athletes with these challenges, we are releasing a new CD program titled, The Focused Sports Kid.

Our goal is to teach you and your kids how they can focus their best in practice and competition.

The first step in helping your kids focus at their peak is to understand and identify their top distractions.

Dr. Cohn just completed a new video that helps you identify the top distractions.
