There are some advantages to <strong>perfectionism.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><strong>Perfectionist<\/strong> kids have a strong work ethic, are committed to goals, and are willing to learn and improve. These great traits often disguise this <strong>&#8216;mental<\/strong> roadblock&#8217; to success.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kids who try to be too perfect can undermine their performance in many ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">They often expect too much of themselves, are afraid of failing, feel anxious, are frustrated, and worry too much about results. This can stifle their talent.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, a perfectionist athlete unknowingly embraces very high expectations. When he does not achieve his expectations, he feels frustrated and thinks he&#8217;s failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Below_is_a_recent_example_from_a_baseball_dad_about_his_son\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">Below is a recent example from a baseball dad about his son:<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><em>&#8220;My son is a good athlete who has always had good <strong>success.<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<em>However, he seems to <strong>focus<\/strong> on the negative, not the <strong>positive.<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<em>If he is practicing hitting, and doesn&#8217;t make good contact,<\/em>&nbsp;<em>after about three swings I hear &#8216;I stink.&#8217; Unfortunately,<\/em>&nbsp;<em>things tend to go down hill from there.&#8221;<\/em><br><strong>~Baseball Dad<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perfectionists think that maintaining strict expectations is a good thing.
