Athletes who know how to <strong>focus<\/strong> on what&#8217;s happening right now-rather than on past mistakes or what the score will be-are more <strong>confident<\/strong> and perform better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, this attitude has paid off. With Wood leading, her squad has racked up back-to-back state championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To help Wood <strong>focus<\/strong> and <strong>stay in the moment,<\/strong> she relies on a <strong>pre-game routine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;My <strong>warm-up routine<\/strong> varies, but it is always <strong>focused<\/strong> on keeping my arm warm,&#8221;<\/em> say<em>s<\/em> Wood.<em>&nbsp; &#8220;Keeping active before I step onto the mound is key for me to be prepared.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pre-game routines<\/strong> are a great way for young athletes to <strong>warm up<\/strong> and <strong>focus<\/strong> on what they need to do to boost their <strong>confidence.<\/strong> If they&#8217;re <strong>focusing<\/strong> on their routines, they can&#8217;t think about the future or past mistakes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another strategy is for young athletes to establish <strong>mini-goals.<\/strong> These are small, achievable but important <strong>goals<\/strong> to <strong>focus<\/strong> on while they&#8217;re playing.
