So were many of the other sports parents she knew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, Jenis, owner of Fox Meadow Films, was so upset by her own over-involvement that she produced a film, <em>&#8220;Bad Parents,&#8221;<\/em> starring two actors from Saturday Night Live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;So much time and energy was invested by the <strong>sports parents.<\/strong> It became our thing-our kids and their sports,&#8221;<\/em> she says. <em>&#8220;You could get sucked into it, but it wasn&#8217;t right.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Everyone loves the community created by <strong>youth sports<\/strong> teams,&#8221;<\/em> she says, <em>&#8220;but at some point, it&#8217;s more about the parents than the kids.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To separate herself a little, she decided to produce a film about the sports scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;I needed a 12-step program to help me get away from youth sports.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here at Kids&#8217; Sports Psychology, we see this problem again and again. Parents-especially those entering the youth sports scene for the first time-find a hard time striking a balance between being over-involved and under-involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can hurt kids&#8217; <strong>confidence<\/strong> and embarrass them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tips_for_Parents\"><\/span>Tips for Parents:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be sure your kids are playing for their own reasons, not yours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support your kids&#8217; reasons for playing. If the reasons are pure social, accept that and support that.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cheer for all members of the team, not just your own child.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be <strong>supportive<\/strong> of your kids&#8217; coaches.
