competition&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Over-coaching_your_young_athletes\"><\/span>Over-coaching your young athletes.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you over-coach kids just before a game, you fill their heads with information they really don\u2019t need at that moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just before a game, kids are already thinking too much all on their own. They need to <strong>trust<\/strong> what they\u2019ve learned, and just perform intuitively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you\u2019re lecturing your young athletes at breakfast about their golf swing or their body position while shooting a free-throw shot, you\u2019re not helping them prepare <strong>mentally<\/strong> for their game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Youre_giving_them_the_wrong_message\"><\/span>You\u2019re giving them the wrong message.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re telling them they can\u2019t <strong>trust<\/strong> what they\u2019ve learned from coaches, and play intuitively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s more, you\u2019re pressuring your young athletes with your own expectations for their performance, which generally does not build their <strong>confidence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here at Kids\u2019 Sports Psychology, we\u2019re doing a series about how to prepare kids <strong>mentally<\/strong> before competition.
