says Wilder, who is also a sports mom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;We are raising <strong>confidence<\/strong> and lowering anxiety in an environment where the athlete feels safe,&#8221;<\/em> she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given that athletes often feel anxious or worried in youth sports, this is an important <strong>focus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"So_what_does_relentless_positivity_look_like_in_sports\"><\/span>So what does relentless positivity look like in sports?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When parents and coaches are <strong>positive,<\/strong> kids are more likely to get out of their comfort zone and take risks&#8230; which means they&#8217;re more likely to grow and learn, she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too much negativity, on the other hand, leads to burnout and stress, she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, one of her clients, an accomplished athlete, was often stressed because his well-intentioned coach talked too much about the strengths of his competitors just before competitions, which caused the athlete to <strong>focus<\/strong> on his own weaknesses and sink his <strong>confidence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Parents and coaches need to intentionally establish team cultures that <strong>focus<\/strong> on being <strong>positive<\/strong> and allowing athletes to make mistakes,&#8221;<\/em> Wilder says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;This has to be intentional,&#8221;<\/em> she says. <em>&#8220;You can&#8217;t just let it happen.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to learn more about how to be <strong>positive<\/strong> in ways that boost kids&#8217;
